There is just something about summer that brings life out of us isn’t it, the scorching sun that makes us drip in sweat in a matter of seconds can be quite irritating especially in the place I reside, Dubai where temperatures on the thermometer can be as high as 52 degrees but those sun – filled warm days where we get to eat ice cream without the need to plead mom and dad that we are not going to catch a cold is finally here! (thank god for that) and of course you will be looking for fun summer activities to do while staying safe and pushing away boring “stay at home days”

Besides sun bathing, beach days and getting out those cute summer dresses there are several other entertaining ideas to add your summer bucket list.

1. Take a Road trip

Pick a spot on the map, get your family in your car and just drive. There are very few activities in this world that are as fun-filled and as exhilarating as going on a road trip either solo with family or with your best friends. Make a list of all the things you would like to do along the way and let the other chips fall where they may. Just go with the flow and remember, have fun. Please don’t end up snoring the car otherwise a wonderfully planned road trip would turn into a monotonous pajama party in a car !!! The open road calls to all of us. One of my favorite road trips was to Oman where we got time to unwind and relax while exploring beautiful wadis along the way  

2. Visit a board game café

It’s a great way to play board games in an Insta-tastic location like The Six in Dubai with cute and cozy décor on the inside and the beaming presence of the Burj Khalifa on the outside. Hive is another location that has an uber-stylish spot, be sure to take a few snaps of the murals painted on the brick walls while rolling the dice on Jumanji, arguing over the viability of words in Scrabble and contemplating their capacity for unsavory comedy with Cards Against Humanity.

3. Volunteer work/internships

Volunteer work help people who need it, but it also shows that you’re engaged with your community. For those who will be applying to university soon, your admission officer will appreciate your dedication to others. Volunteering can also expose you to adversity in ways you wouldn’t normally experience, which can broaden your perspective. An internship shows maturity, responsibility and financial planning while making your CV look impressive on an application. Moreover, your work experience will make it easier to apply for jobs and pursue professional opportunities in your undergraduate career and beyond.
